Description

Henri Rousseau (artist) was born in 1844 and died in 1910. He worked as a customs officer and toll collector on the outskirts of Paris, before retiring in his 40’s to paint full time. He was a post-impressionist known for his primitive or naive style. He influenced many artists to come with his beautiful, unique style. This drawings is of the custom house he used to work in, probably taken from old photos. It is by artist Earl Mayan, famous for his Saturday Evening Post covers of the 1950’s and 60’s, and many other illustrations. It is drawn in pencil and artist’s crayon on paper. It measures 13” x 16”.
